Old Windsor Children's Physiotherapy offers a highly specialized type of physiotherapy for babies, children & young people. I work mainly along the lines of NDT (Neuro-developmental therapy, also known as Bobath therapy). I am a fully trained NDT therapist, but have also extended my skills into various other forms of therapy including some aspects of Sensory Integration Therapy, Hydrotherapy/Aquatherapy, Play based therapy etc.
My approach to therapy focuses not only on treating the conditions of the children who attend my clinic, but also extends to helping parents understand & help their children as well as educating schools, nurseries & child minders in how to best support the individual child’s needs and how to make therapy a naturally & easily integrated part of the child’s life. You will be encouraged to take part in your child's therapy sessions and you will always have a chance to try out activities and exercises with your child until you are confident you can carry them out at home, too.
I firmly believe that therapy can be fitted into almost all activities children do during their waking day and most of these activities can be made use of in a therapeutic sense, which means minimizing actual exercise regimes and instead incorporating special ways of playing, doing homework, carrying out activities of daily living etc. in the most beneficial ways.
Parents are often relieved to find that the whole family can & does play a very active part in the child’s development / recovery / rehabilitation and that siblings are warmly welcomed and encouraged to get involved as well wherever possible.
Each child is assessed individually (sometimes over several sessions if required). Following this an individual treatment plan will be made for your child - including goal setting in collaboration with you as the parents and your child/young adult.
This treatment plan evolves with ongoing treatment and is reviewed at regular intervals suitable for your child’s speed of progress & your personal needs. Usually we set some short term goals as well as some long term goals and your child is always involved in the goal setting if at all possible. This fosters self worth, independence and shows your child that he/she is taken seriously as a person.
